Season's Greetings & 2020 Auction Highlights

End of Year Highlights
Posted on 18 December 2020

The directors and staff of Art+Object would like to thank all our clients, industry colleagues and friends for their support in 2020, a tumultuous and unprecedented year for us all. More than ever, we have deeply appreciated the support of the country’s art and auction communities.

Despite two of our three scheduled Important Paintings and Contemporary Art auctions being subjected to Covid-19 postponements, the 2020 year resulted in many highlights for the art market. New record prices were set by Art+Object for the works of Theo Schoon, Michael Parekōwhai, Gretchen Albrecht, Robert Ellis, Seung Yul Oh, Jack Trolove and Ray Haydon. For the first time in our 14-year history, all three of our flagship Important Paintings and Contemporary Art auctions resulted in sale totals in excess of two million dollars.

Our Rare Books department shined this year with The Peter Stratford Collection, including the sale of an 1876 manuscript diary compiled by HN Moseley, naturalist on board the HMS Challenger, for $79 950.

It was also an eventful year for Decorative & Applied Arts. Two collections of Scandinavian Design got cleared by 100%, and the sale of the iconic Paul Hartigan collection of Crown Lynn realised $31 447 with 80 out of 82 lots sold under the hammer.

Our valuation department completed many significant private and public valuations, including collection valuations for The Govett-Brewster Gallery, The Len Lye Foundation, Auckland University Art Collection, The Rotorua Museum/Te Whare Taonga o Te Aroha, Tauranga Art Gallery, The Ara Institute of Canterbury, and many more.

2020 also saw us redesign our website and introduce our own customised bidding app and online bidding facility.

Art+Object will be closing today, Friday 18 December, however, Ben and Leigh are available until Christmas.
