Asian Art/New Zealand Artefacts & Tribal Art
The Asian Art section of the catalogue featured the finest offering of Japanese Meiji period Satsuma pottery to be offered in New Zealand, with pieces by Yabu Meizan, Hankizan and Fujisan of particular delicacy and very sought after. Centrepiece of the Chinese Art section was the John A. and Louise Gray ‘Mark and Period’ Collection, which saw good results for pieces of the Qianlong and Guangxu periods. The high prices achieved by a group of five jade carvings from the Rex Jenning Collection also confirmed the strong international and local interest in Chinese jade carvings with impeccable provenance.
