Art+Object is pleased to report a sale total of $2 146 997 from the last Important Paintings & Contemporary Art auction for 2024. The auction was headlined by Rosalie Gascoigne's much-admired assemblage Roadside, which realised $505 667 against its pre-sale estimate of $350 000 - $500 000, a new record price for the artist's work at auction in New Zealand. Terry Stringer's Apollo and Daphne also made a new record price when it exceeded its pre-sale estimate to realise $79 202. Record prices at auction were also achieved for the work of Richard Lewer and Ans Westra. Ralph Hotere was represented by several significant works in the catalogue and the second highest price of the evening went to his magnificent work from the 'Song Cycle' series, Vidyapati's Song, which brought $341 180. His fourteen panel work, Song of Solomon sold in a negotiated sale for $115 757. Further strong prices were achieved for the work of Richard Killeen, Karl Maughan, Bill Hammond, Tony Fomison, Barry Brickell, Ayesha Green, and others.
