Important Paintings & Contemporary Art

6:00PM 3 Abbey Street, Newton, Auckland

Art+Object invites final entries for its last auction of Important Paintings & Contemporary Art in 2024, to be held on Thursday 21 November. The catalogue is a particularly interesting and finely provenanced one, featuring several consignments of note, including works from the collection of Dr. Ian Prior and Elespie Prior in Wellington. Dr. Prior was a distinguished epidemiologist with a particular interest in Māori health. He was also the founder of the Wellington Sculpture Trust and together with Elespie, they supported numerous social justice and arts causes. The catalogue also features three important early works by Ralph Hotere from the estate of Sydney Kelly, a friend of Hotere's and fellow Arts advisor from the Auckland Department of Education in the 1960s. A significant private collection of contemporary art has also been consigned, including major works by Bill Hammond, Tony Fomison, Shane Cotton, and Peter Stichbury. Consignments close next week.

The auction will be conducted live in our Newton saleroom with online bidding available via our online bidding platform or app available on App Store or Google Play.
