Art+Object’s third and final auction of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art will take place on December 7th. The auction takes place amidst an atmosphere of remarkable and sustained growth in the New Zealand art market, in these most extraordinary of times. 2021 has witnessed Art+Object achieve numerous new milestones including the setting of new record prices for: Michael Parekōwhai, Gordon Walters, Fiona Pardington, Dick Frizzell, Peter Stichbury, Robert Elllis, Tony de Lautour, Seung Yul Oh, Star Gossage, Amanda Gruenwald, Samantha Mitchell and more.
Headlining the catalogue is one of Gordon Walters finest paintings, simply entitled Koru (1971). It is the largest Koru painting the artist completed and bears the distinguished provenance of coming from the collection of the artist’s long-term dealer and supporter, Peter McLeavey. Also included in the auction catalogue is the collection of the art buying group the Fitzherbert Postimpressionist Society, disbanding after ten years together. Their collection includes notable works by Robert Jahnke, John Pule, Dick Frizzell, Guy Ngan and others.
