Important Photographs & Contemporary Art

A+O's winter art catalogue was divided into two distinct sections. In the past A+O has presented distinct photographic catalogues which have proven immensely popular. For this catalogue we decided to present photography with art - the goal being to not define the art by genre. This meant major photographic works were presented alongside important paintings and sculpture of a similar period to present an holistic view of the overall visual art scene; peer to peer is a good way of describing this catalogue. The photographic section produced artist auction records for Laurence Aberhart and Michael Parekowhai who were both represented with signature and highly sought after images. Strong prices were also recorded for key works by Peter Peryer, Fiona pardington and Ann Shelton. The art catalogue was distinguished by a major canvases of scale by Allen Maddox, Pat Hanly and smaller but excellent works on paper and canvases by Ralph Hotere, Shane Cotton, Rick Killeen and Colin McCahon.
