Modernism in New Zealand

PRELIMINARY RESULTS

Schoon archive sets the market alight. A packed room with multiple bidders across all sections of the 300 lot catalogue resulted in a sale clearance rate of 78% and upper estimates exceeded repeatedly as bidders battled for key pieces from the collection of Rodney Robertson and the important archive of Theo Schoon Cave art and photography dating to the 1940s. The sale and catalogue proved again that collectors value provenance and history associated with New Zealand’s cultural heritage and the growing appreciation for New Zealand modernist applied arts, design and visual art.
