Rare Books
A+O's rare book sales have attracted a growing following in the last two years. This catalogue will feature many rare and fascinating items including a first edition of Buller's Birds, a large archive of correspondence and research material from noted historian James Cowan (1870-1943), a strong selection of early New Zealand literature including first editions by Hone Tuwhare and James K Baxter. Another highlight is an archive collection including signed items by Winston Churchill relating to one of the most important WWII conferences, the Arcadia or First Washington Conference of 1941/42. The collection comes by direct provenance from one of the flight crew on the Boeing Clipper RMA Berwick on which Churchill and the British warlords returned to the UK in January 1942 after this groundbreaking conference which planned America's entry into WWII. The collection includes photographs of Churchill on board the Berwick, signed documents by Churchill and other items of Aviation history.
