The Collection of Frank and Lyn Corner

It was standing room only for those attending The Collection of Frank and Lyn Corner auction on Sunday 18 March at The New Zealand Portrait Gallery in Wellington. Following Art+Object's most successful auction viewing to date, which was held across four days at the Corner's Thorndon family residence, two hundred and fourteen works from the collection were offered at auction. Several hundred collectors from across the country packed the auction room, and energetic bidding was had both in the room and across phone, absentee and online platforms. Several record prices for artists at auction were achieved, including Rita Angus' Storm, Hawkes Bay from 1969 which eventually sold for a superb $696 695. A record price at auction was also achieved for Tanya Ashken's White Torso ($34 835) which graced the catalogue cover. Total sales under the hammer for the auction were $2 600 000.
