The Collection of the late Nicholas Browne
Principally compiled in the 1990s and hitherto seen by very few, The Collection of the Late Nicholas Browne presented itself as a prescient and insightful snapshot of the contemporary New Zealand art world put together in a carefully edited and highly idiosyncratic manner. Browne lived in Auckland and possessed a wonderful eye for contemporary art informed by close relationships with artists, dealers and fellow collectors. The collection consisted of just over 50 works by key contemporary and modern artists including: Andrew McLeod, Julian Dashper, Bill Hammond, Giovanni Intra, Ralph Hotere, Colin McCahon, Seraphine Pick, Mary-Louise Browne, Richard Killeen, John Reynolds and many more. A small stand-alone catalogue was published to mark the event. Total turnover for the auction was $254 000 with an impressive clearance rate of over 75%.
