The Martin Hill Collection of International and New Zealand Ceramics

Martin Hill (1926-2005) was a well-known Wellington architect who emigrated to New Zealand in the early 1950s and bought with him a family collection of many of the foundation modern ceramicists including Bernard Leach, Michael Cardew and early Winchcombe Pottery. Hill continued to add to the collection with works by Dame Lucie Rie, Hans Coper and Shoji Hamada. New Zealand and European collectors viewed the collection as highly significant and A+O was inundated with bidders chasing early and rare examples by these esteemed practitioners. A catalogue and an auction that will live long in the memory.
