The John Gow Collection of Historical New Zealand Photographs/The Tātarāmoa Collection / New Zealand Art / Modern Design & Applied Arts
6:00PM 3 Abbey Street, Newton, Auckland
Art+Object’s multi-part catalogue of New Collectors Art and Modern Design including the John Gow Collection of Historical Photography and the Tātarāmoa Collection is now available to browse online. We are pleased to offer 575 lots of varied, eclectic and interesting material.
John Gow has managed the careers of many of our most significant contemporary artists, including Max Gimblett, John Pule, Judy Millar, Shane Cotton and many more. Outside of the galley and in the private space of his central Auckland home he is a passionate collector of Māori antiques and historical New Zealand photographs, especially those which relate to Rotorua and the geothermal region. We are delighted to be bringing his collection of historical and modern photographs to the market in this catalogue.
The Tātarāmoa (bush lawyer) collection features works compiled by a passionate Auckland collector with a distinct focus on local artists. It includes works by Peter Siddell, Pat Hanly, Louise Henderson, Claudia Pond Eyley, Kylie Sanderson, Stanley Palmer and many more.
Further collections of note include pottery from the collection of Len Castle’s family and Andrew and Jeannie van der Putten, whilst the Twentieth Century Design component includes a collection of original design classics including pieces by Mies van der Rohe, Charles and Ray Eames and Arne Jaceobsen, made under license.
