The Karakter Collection of 20th Century Design/New Zealand Ceramics/The Len Castle Collection

A+O's October catalogue was a tightly themed offering of mid 20th century modern design furniture combined with the estate of Len Castle (1924-2011) New Zealand's most renowned ceramicist. The viewing was a busy affair as friends, colleagues and collectors of Len Castle mingled with design fans. The auction turned out to be one of the most successful of the year with many new records set for both design and of course Len Castle’s personal collection which many included pieces dating to the early 1950s.
Highlights included a new record for a Garth Chester chair at $8790, strong prices across the modern design for high quality pieces from Hans Wegner, Sigurd Ressell and Poul Henningson – and a near sell out for the Len Castle collection with numerous pieces selling for well over $5000.
