The Collection of Adrian Burr and Peter Tatham - Vol. 2

2:30PM Virtual online auction

The directors and staff of Art+Object are both proud and humbled to report a sale total from the landmark collection of Adrian Burr and Peter Tatham well beyond all expectations. Total sales for the two volumes realised $15 077 156, well in excess of pre-sale estimates. The auction represents a watershed moment for the New Zealand art market, becoming easily the highest value auction of art, antiques and collectables in New Zealand history. Michael Parekōwhai's A Peak in Darien became the highest value artwork ever sold at auction in this country and the record price for a work by a living artist. Over one million dollars was paid for three works in the auction and thirty individual artist record prices were set.

We are immensely grateful to all of our clients for their support and understanding in the difficult run up to the auction which we had to reschedule four times. We are so glad that Aucklanders had the opportunity to engage in-person with the collection and thank all of those who went out of their way to share stories of their many experiences in the wonderful company of Adrian and Peter. Their magnificent art collection, their legacy and contribution to the arts in Aotearoa New Zealand, and themselves as generous and warm individuals, will not be forgotten.
