End of Year Highlights

The ART+OBJECT team would like to thank all of our clients and visitors who have contributed to another busy and eventful year. 2018 again witnessed Art+Object finishing the year as the country's leading fine art auction house, with just over 10.7 million dollars of art sales through auction achieved.
It was a year in which we conducted our first auction in Wellington, the phenomenally successful sale of the collection of Lyn and Frank Corner at the National Portrait Gallery. This auction resulted in attendance of over 300 people and sales of 99% by volume and 130% by value. Another highlight was our final auction of the year of Important Paintings & Contemporary Art which realised a sale total of 3.4 million dollars and featured three paintings from the period of 1965 - 1970 by Don Binney, one of which sold for a new record price $684 685. Further record prices were also achieved during the year for the work of Tony Fomison ($385 585), Philip Clairmont ($331 530), Peter Peryer ($21 620) and John Tole ($37 235), in the second instalment of the Les and Milly Paris Collection in June, along with Rita Angus ($695 695) in the Corner Collection sale.
Taken together these results indicate the underlying strength and continued growth of the New Zealand art market across all tiers with renewed strengthening particularly evident at the top end where the best examples by our leading twentieth century artists continue to be increasingly sought-after.
