Art+Object is delighted to announce the auction event of 2024. Six paintings, one artist, one collector, one unprecedented auction. On Monday March 25, Art+Object will auction the unique collection of Māori portraits by New Zealand’s most well-known artist Charles Goldie, collected by the late Neil Graham of Christchurch.
In 1979, Neil Graham, together with business partner Bruce Plested, founded the fledgling trucking business Mainfreight. The company is today the largest freight forwarder in New Zealand. Later in his life he became best known for his extraordinary generosity and philanthropy. Art lovers will instantly recognise the Martin Creed work Graham gifted to the city of Christchurch which adorns the side of Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū, a bold and optimistic assertion for the people of Christchurch in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of 2011. Assembled between 2005 and 2013, this unprecedented auction will focus solely on this collection and will comprise of just six extraordinary lots.
A publication will be produced to mark the occasion. Further details will be released in due course and pre-orders of the limited-edition catalogue are now available.
