6:30PM 3 Abbey Street, Newton, Auckland

Art+Object has closed the landmark auction of six paintings by Charles Frederick Goldie from the collection of Neil Graham, with all six paintings now sold. The top selling lot was the magnificent portrait of Te Aho o-te-Rangi Wharepu, A Noted Waikato Warrior which sold for 2.1 million dollars, a new world record price for the artist’s work at auction and only the third painting in history to bring in excess of two million dollars at auction in this country. The sale total realised was 5.575 million dollars. All six paintings have been purchased by private New Zealand collectors and we would like congratulate each of them. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Graham family.

The prices realised for this auction and last night’s ‘Important Paintings and Contemporary Art’ auction are now available online and include buyer’s premium and GST.

Head over to our Stories to explore essays by Rangihīroa Panoho, Ngahiraka Mason, Leonard Bell, Linda Tyler, Laurence Simmons, Martin Edmond and Jenny Harper on the artworks in the collection.
